Ergonomics course for Massage therapists, Physiotherapists, Body therapists and other therapists working at a table.
Get rid of your pain by learning a few changes in the way you work at the couch.
The most common challenges as a bodyworker are lower back and wrist pain. Lower back pain is caused by poor posture and incorrect table settings, while wrist pain is caused by poor techniques.
When we train massage therapists for VAT exemption and RAB, we often come across massage therapists who complain that they have pain in their daily lives. There are those who have learned it right but have developed bad habits, and then there are others who have unfortunately learned bad techniques and have not focused on working positions. After a few changes, their pain disappears.
We think it’s a shame that many people think that you can’t work as a full-time massage therapist because it’s too physically demanding. We hear people say that you can only massage for a maximum of 3 hours a day or 3 days a week. Our opinion is that it’s a question of ergonomics, as it’s healthy to use your body as long as you do it right.
During the course, we look at each participant’s current posture and technique, after which we practice the correct techniques. In addition, we will do Qi gong exercises to gain the understanding of good movement, which we then transfer to use at the couch.
It’s important to show up with an openness to learning new things and changing old habits.

Trainer: Susan Wichmand Head of School at AM Academy.
Trained as a Physician Certified Physiurgical Massage Therapist, Sports Massage Therapist and Chair Massage Therapist with subsequent courses in sports injuries, trigger points, techniques for headaches and more. Susan also teaches anatomy and the practical part of the massage therapy program. Susan practiced Jiu Jitsu in her youth, which has given her naturally good ergonomics at the bench. Susan is also a judge at DM & VM in massage.
Susan: “I think the reason I’ve always had good ergonomics is because I practiced Jiu Jitsu as a young person. I use the movement patterns from Jiu Jitsu in my everyday life, and combined with the right techniques for the hands, I’ve never had any problems working as a full-time massage therapist”
