Become certified Musculupat® – a unique training with a holistic focus

Learn the best muscular treatment techniques and advanced massage therapy.

Focus on holistic treatment

As a Musculupat®, you work with the body from a holistic perspective, combining Western physiology and anatomy with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). You learn to understand and treat the body through the meridian pathways and the 5 elements. The program gives you in-depth insights and techniques in massage, reflexology, 5-point acupuncture, Cranio Sacral Therapy and much more. By combining different methods and approaches, you create better and longer-lasting results for your clients – something many experience for the first time after a Musculupat® treatment.

The program goes a step beyond traditional massage and body therapy by combining several techniques in the same treatment and working from meridians. You’ll also learn about Functional Neurology, Z-health theory and the importance of the mind-body connection. We teach the client/therapist conversation so that you will be able to provide a holistic treatment. A treatment is more than the treatment itself, communication is a big part of it. Communication and psychology are therefore also taught.

Practical and theoretical training

You’ll learn a wide range of treatment techniques such as myofascial release, joint release, pain understanding, pulsation and stretching. We emphasize that you understand the anatomy and physiology of the body at a solid professional level – a core competency that makes you a complete practitioner. Unlike many other body therapy programs, anatomy and physiology are a mandatory part of our curriculum, as we believe this is essential for understanding the body and thus helping our clients.

Ready to start up as a practitioner

The program also teaches you sales and customer service, how to start your own clinic and much more in the Clinic Guidance course. We make sure you are ready to go out and work as a therapist and/or start your own clinic. We help our students all the way.

A protected title

After completing the exams, you can proudly call yourself a Musculupat® – a protected title that can only be used by practitioners who have completed this training. We train you to become a competent, professional and holistic practitioner.

Take the next step in your career – become a Musculupat® and make a difference to your clients’ health and wellbeing.

Great team of teachers

At AM we have a large team of teachers and on the Musculupat® program you will meet many of them, as you will have 7 different teachers with different backgrounds during your education. You will meet masseurs, physiotherapists, body therapists, osteopaths and a doctor. Meeting a wide range of therapists, each with their own specialty, makes the program even more unique as similar programs typically only have 1-2 teachers.

RAB and VAT exemption

As a trained Musculupat®, you have 800 hours of training, which includes everything required to become VAT exempt and a Registered Alternative Practitioner (RAB).

Working from home

Becoming proficient in a craft requires practice, which is why it’s important that you practice what you learn at home. You can also choose a payment solution that includes an internship, which allows you to practice what you learn at school during your internship. In addition, the theoretical part must be studied. There are no major written assignments, but there are some online tests to take along the way.

Duration

The program is offered as an evening school or weekend class and takes approximately 2 years. After the first six months, it will already be possible to start working as a therapist with e.g. massage treatments.

(If you are already a trained massage therapist, you can start directly on a shortened course, which you can find HERE)

Read about the individual courses/modules:

Motion analysis

The key tool for precise treatment

Learn to “read” the body in motion so you can find the cause of pain and create a targeted treatment plan – every time.

You will learn:

  • Clinical observation of movement patterns
Get a keen eye for imbalances in posture, gait and dynamic movements to quickly spot problem areas.

  • Muscle and joint assessment in practice
Analyze which muscles are compensating and how limited joint freedom affects the entire movement chain.

  • Functional testing of the body’s major joints
Systematic tests of the shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, elbow and wrist give you concrete measurements for your journal and clear benchmarks for the treatment process.

  • Targeted questioning
Learn to ask the right questions that uncover the client’s pain history and daily stresses – and make your assessment even more accurate.

  • From analysis to action
Translate your findings into an effective treatment plan with the right grips, stretches and exercises so the client feels the difference from the first session.

With thorough movement analysis, you’ll be able to find the cause behind the symptom – and give your client lasting results.

Trigger points

The precision tool for pain relief

Understand the small muscle changes that can trigger major pain and learn how to neutralize them safely and effectively.

You will learn:

  • What is a trigger point?
Get the physiological explanation for hyperirritable nodes in muscle tissue and their role in myofascial pain.

  • The history & evidence
From Travell & Simons’ groundbreaking research to the latest evidence, we put the method into a modern, scientific framework.

  • Identification & palpation
Train your hands to accurately locate trigger points and distinguish them from regular tense muscle tone.

  • Referred pain patterns
Learn how a trigger point can trigger pain elsewhere in the body and how to diagnose the patterns quickly.

  • Integration in your sessions
Combine trigger point work with classic massage, movement analysis and home exercises for maximum, lasting effect.

After the course, you’ll be able to target your treatments where the pain starts – and give your clients faster, more lasting relief.

Working postures and ergonomics

Take care of your body while you take care of others

As a massage therapist, your own body is your most important tool. This course gives you the strategies to work efficiently, painlessly and sustainably – so you can deliver excellence to your clients year after year.

You will learn:

  • Optimal bench and body position
Find the right bench height, foot position and weight distribution to use the strength of your legs and core instead of straining your hands and lower back.

  • Power without overload
Techniques to generate pressure with body weight, elbows and forearms – and spare fingers, wrists and shoulders.

  • Dynamic movement
Learn to “dance” around the couch with fluid steps and correct knee and hip flexion to make your treatment both precise and energy efficient.

  • Ergonomics in clinic interiors
From chair height to tool placement, we explore how small adjustments can increase comfort and reduce wear and tear on your body.

  • Long-term strategies
Get a personalized ergonomics plan to ensure you can handle a full booking schedule without going down in pain.

With proper ergonomics, you’ll work smarter, not harder – and create a work life that lasts as long as your passion for massage.

Clinic guidance

Build confidence, trust… and repeat customers

Get equipped for the entire client journey – from the first greeting at reception to follow-up visits and ongoing record keeping.

You will learn:

  • Before and aftercare
How to welcome professionally, conduct a structured pre-consultation and give concrete home advice to increase the effect of your treatment.

  • Re-booking with value
Learn natural, value-adding techniques to recommend the next visit so that the client understands the benefits and voluntarily books again.

  • Journaling made easy
Handy forms and digital solutions that make your notes quick to write – and easy to use for planning and documentation.

  • Basic Health Law & GDPR
Get to grips with all the legalities required for RAB approval and VAT exemption: consent, data security, storage and reporting.

Customer internship

From training table to real clients

Now you translate theory and training into real treatments in the school’s open clinic.

It happens in the customer practice:

  • Live sessions with real clients
You treat people from the outside and experience how the techniques work on different body types and issues.

  • Supervisor by your side
An experienced trainer is on hand, ready to answer questions and provide constructive feedback to help you develop safely.

  • Joint evaluation
After each session, we review the process together – what worked, what can be refined – so the learning sticks.

  • Ethics & professional behavior
We discuss confidentiality, boundaries and respectful communication so you feel safe from the first handshake.

  • Customer reception and sales
Learn how to welcome the client, explain the treatment plan and present rebooking and add-ons in an honest, value-adding way.

The client internship is your safe stepping stone to the real world, where you gain confidence and routine before opening the door to your own clinic.

Sports injuries

Effective treatment before, during and after performance

In the world of sports, every second counts – and your grip can mean the difference between top play and a break on the bench.

You will learn:

  • Acute vs. overuse injuries
Understand the mechanisms behind fiber tears, sprains and inflammation as well as the classic overloads in shoulders, knees, legs and ankles.

  • Targeted treatment techniques
Learn how to combine massage, stretching, cupping and mobilization to accelerate healing and restore mobility.

  • Pre-event massage
Techniques to activate muscles, increase blood flow and optimize athlete focus – without draining energy from the body.

  • Post-event massage
Methods to reduce soreness, remove waste products and accelerate recovery so the athlete is quickly ready for the next training session or match.

With a specialty in sports injuries, you’ll be the professional athletes call when their bodies call it quits – and the one they thank when they’re back on top.

Meridian theory & the 5 elements

Understanding the body’s energy pathways and the 5 elements

The meridians and the five elements are the very foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Learning to “read” the flow of energy (Qi) through these pathways gives you a whole new perspective on pain, imbalances and healing – and a powerful complement to your Western anatomy knowledge.

You will learn:

  • The meridian map from head to toe
Location, direction and function of the 12 main meridians as well as the Ren and Du channels – and how they relate to specific organs and muscles.

  • Yin/Yang logic & 5-Element cycle
Understand how wood, fire, earth, metal and water interact and how imbalances show up as muscle tension, pain or emotional patterns.

  • Practical application in massage
Integrate meridian strokes, acupressure points and elemental thinking into your existing techniques for deeper, more holistic results.

  • The Bridge to Western Anatomy
See how meridian pathways overlap with fascia lines and trigger point patterns and use combined knowledge for more precise treatment.

Meridian teachings give you an extra “diagnostic layer” that opens up new treatment options when classical anatomy alone does not explain the client’s problem.

Reflexology
Treatment of the musculoskeletal system with reflexology massage.
using special massage and pressure techniques primarily on the feet. Combine reflexology with your massage for optimal effect.
5-point acupuncture
To increase the effect of your treatment and/or as a treatment for stress. Also used to treat various addictions (this is the same as NADA)
Understanding joints - Pelvis and spine
Spinal joint release is taught, why we do it and how. Before treatment, we do various tests to determine if treatment is needed.
Understanding pain
Learn to understand different types of pain and learn more about approaches to treatment.
Pulsation
Functional Neurology

Learn to understand the nervous system and the signals sent to the musculoskeletal system. Sometimes the wrong signals are sent, and you’ll learn through simple exercises how to correct these wrong signals in your clients.

Treatment techniques

You will learn to understand and perform several treatment techniques, such as pulsation and stretching, in close collaboration between client and therapist.

Anatomy and physiology

Blended learning for maximum flexibility

Get the in-depth theory knowledge you need without being stuck in long classrooms. Our blended learning format combines short, focused teaching days with self-paced, multimedia-based e-learning, so you can fit your study around your schedule.

This is how the process works:

  • One training day per topic
The trainer will go through key points, demonstrate models and you will have the opportunity to ask all your questions face-to-face.

  • e-learning with interactive resources
After the class day, dive deeper into the material via illustrated chapters, animation videos, assignments and quizzes that ensure the theory is translated into understanding.

  • Books at nursing level
We use the same recognized basic books as the nursing education – only with the topics that are not relevant for manual therapy excluded. The result is depth where massage therapists need it.

    Why blended learning?

    • Flexibility: Study when it suits you – without losing the important sparring with your teacher and fellow students.

    • Higher retention: Video, images and quizzes activate multiple learning channels for better recall.

    • Effective class time: The questions are sharp because you’ve read ahead – and the instructor can go in-depth on your specific challenges.

With this blended learning format, you get the same academic rigor of a professional program – but in a form that suits the busy life of a future practitioner.

    Pathology & Pharmacology

Blended learning for safe, secure care

Understand the body’s disease processes and the medications your clients may be taking so you can treat responsibly and advise wisely. The course follows the same flexible blended-learning model as Anatomy & Physiology: short, concentrated teaching days combined with self-directed e-learning based on the recognized textbook system from nursing education (only those topics relevant to manual therapists).

With blended learning in Pathology & Pharmacology, you gain deep theoretical insights without compromising on flexibility – and you can put knowledge into safe practice from day one on the bench.

    Psychology

Health psychology tools for the professional practitioner

This course does not make you a psychologist in 50 hours – nor is it meant to. The aim is to give you a solid, practical insight into the health psychology aspects of stress, anxiety, pain and other stresses so you can communicate confidently, support the client optimally and know when it’s time to refer.

    You will learn:

    • Reactions to stress
Understand how body and mind interact in stress, chronic pain and anxiety – and how it affects the client’s experience of your treatment.

    • Communication in the clinic
Active listening, open questions, mirroring and a clear framework so that the client feels heard and safe from the first minute.

    • Health psychology models
Biopsychosocial approach, coping strategies and placebo mechanisms – theory that makes sense with real people.

    • Danger signs & boundaries
Learn to spot red flags such as widespread anxiety, signs of depression or somatization, where manual therapy alone is not enough – and when you should refer to a doctor or psychologist.

    • The practitioner role
Professional boundaries, self-care and ethics – look after yourself while you look after others.

The Psychology course doesn’t give you a therapist certificate, but a language and tools that make your physical treatments safer, more holistic – and significantly more effective.

    Functional neurology
Learn more about coordination, balance and endurance from the neuroanatomy (cerebellum). You will also learn about cerebellar functions and core muscle function, as well as rehabilitation for a malfunctioning cerebellum.
    Myofascial Release

Myofascia is the connective tissue around muscles that can become tight and rigid.

Many people experience this tension as stiffness or as muscles that won’t relax and in some cases it causes a burning sensation.

The connective tissue and fascia is a very complex system. In the program, you will gain a basic understanding of what fascia is and how to approach treatment for fascia-related injuries.

There is a strong focus on the manual and many different treatment techniques will be introduced and applied to the whole body.

    Sports acupuncture / Dry Needling

    Needle precise, heal faster

Dry Needling is the modern, Western version of acupuncture: thin, sterile needles are placed directly into trigger points and tight fascial lines to relax muscle tissue, reduce pain and accelerate recovery – especially in athletes.

    You will learn:

    • Neurophysiology & Evidence
Understand how needle stimulation affects motor endplates, increases blood flow and triggers central pain modulation.

    • Safe needle handling
Hygiene, contraindications, angles and depths – so you work efficiently and risk-free.

    • Precise point localization
Learn how to find and treat the most relevant trigger points in the neck, arms, hips, legs and lower legs – including referenced pain zones.

    • Integrated treatment protocol
Combine dry needling with physiurgical massage, stretching or cupping for faster tissue healing and better mobility.

    • Acute & Chronic Sports Injuries
Tailor needle treatment for fiber tears, tendinopathies and myofascial pain to get athletes back in the game ASAP.

    • Client communication
Explain procedure, emotion and expected reaction so that even needle skeptics feel comfortable.

Sports acupuncture/dry needling gives you a highly precise tool that can release deep tension in minutes and give your clients a significantly shorter path from injury to peak performance.

    Swedish massage

    Targeted relief for musculoskeletal problems

You’ll learn to combine classic massage techniques with clinical thinking to treat muscles from head to toe – solving both acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems.

    You will learn:

    • Structured full-body protocol
Systematic sequence that ensures every muscle group – from the intrinsic muscles of the foot to the deep extensors of the neck – is worked effectively.

    • Problem-focused treatment
Techniques for targeted relief of low back pain, tension headaches, rotator cuff dysfunction, tennis elbow, Achilles tendon problems and more.

    • Variable pressure & pace
Adjust grip according to tissue response, client pain threshold and desired goal.

    • Muscle-chain connectivity
Understand how dysfunction in one place can propagate throughout the movement chain – and address the cause rather than the symptom.

    • Circulation & Tissue Healing
Stimulate blood and lymph flow, reduce edema and deliver energizing oxygen to muscles for faster recovery.

    • Adapting to the client’s everyday life
Include ergonomics, stress levels and sleep habits to address both biomechanical and lifestyle factors behind the pain.

The result is a massage that not only feels comfortable, but also creates measurable improvement in mobility and pain relief – giving you a solid, independent craft for all types of clients.

    Facial massage

    Calm, balance and tension release

Pamper the fine muscles of the face and give the client deep relaxation from jaw to crown. With precise techniques, you’ll learn to release both superficial and deep-seated tension that can cause headaches, jaw pain and tired facial expressions.

    You will learn:

    • Relaxing flow massage
Gliding strokes and light lymphatic drainage that relieves stress, calms the nervous system and provides instant peace.

    • Release tension points
Locate and treat trigger and acupressure points in the jaw, temple, forehead, neck and skull to relieve headaches and bite problems.

    • Jaw & Cranial Relaxation
Gentle grips that loosen the masseter, temporalis and suboccipital muscles – areas where many unconsciously store stress.

    • Customize to client needs
Vary pressure, pace and grip for everything from deep therapeutic release to pure wellness treatment.

With facial massage to complement your body treatments, you can offer a holistic experience that both relieves pain and leaves the client with a visible sense of lightness and glow.

    Connective tissue massage

Free the fascia, amplify the results

Elastic, well-functioning fascia is the key to free movement and long-term pain relief. This module gives you the specialized tools to target the connective tissue – both with your hands and with moving cupping (Silicone cups).

    You will learn:

    • Fascia function & importance
Understand how connective tissue binds muscles, nerves and organs together – and why restrictions here can cause stiffness, reduced performance and pain.

    • Manual connective tissue technique
Slow, deep strokes and stretches that break down adhesions, increase glide and restore elasticity.

    • Moving cupping (Silicone cups)
Use vacuum cups dynamically over fascia lines to quickly increase blood flow, release trigger points and stimulate lymphatic drainage.

    • Combination with classic massage
Learn to integrate connective tissue grips before or after physiurgical massage to enhance the effect and shorten recovery time.

    • Indications & contraindications
When is connective tissue massage the best option – and when should you choose another method?

    • Client communication
Explain the process and any temporary marks from the cups so the client feels comfortable and informed.

Releasing the fascia will increase mobility, reduce pain and make your other treatments even more effective – a must-have in every masseuse’s toolbox.

    Vein pump massage

Slight pressure, make the liquid flow

Edema and heavy legs can drain the energy of your clients. With vein pumping massage, you’ll learn gentle yet highly effective techniques that activate the body’s natural venous and lymphatic circulation – reducing water retention quickly and safely.

    You will learn:

    • Physiology of the venous pump
Understand how venous valves, muscle pumps and respiration work together to move blood and lymph back towards the heart.

    • Basic grip & rhythm
Gentle, rhythmic compression and relaxation movements from periphery to center that help to remove fluid without irritating the tissue.

    • Positioning & Gravity
Use elevation postures and the client’s own muscle activity to enhance the draining effect.

    • Indications & contraindications
When is vein pump massage beneficial – and when should it be avoided?

    • Simple home tips
Learn to guide the client in light exercises, breathing techniques and self-massage to maintain the effect between sessions.

    • Integration in treatments
Combine vein pump massage with connective tissue grip or classic massage as a start or finish, so the client leaves the couch with light, energized legs.

With vein pumping massage, you add a gentle yet powerful tool to your repertoire – perfect for clients struggling with swelling, tired legs or long recovery time.

    Stretching

    Extend muscles, extend results

Add dynamic and static stretching to your treatments and give clients the tools to maintain the effect at home.

    You will learn:

    • Assisted stretches on the couch
PNF and MET (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and muscle-energy) techniques for hips, thighs, lower back, shoulders and neck to safely and effectively lengthen muscles.

    • Active mobility stretches
Use the client’s own muscle power during stretching to achieve greater ROM (range of motion) and better neural control.

    • Contraindications & safety
Spot the situations where stretching should be avoided (acute injuries, hypermobility, inflammation) and adjust grip and angle accordingly.

    • Home exercises
Give the client tips for stretching at home so they can continue stretching between treatments.

    • Progression strategy
Guide the client on when and how to increase intensity or duration to achieve lasting results without overload.

With assisted stretching as part of your session, you provide instant freedom of movement – and with home training, you ensure the benefits last long after the client has left the couch.
