Our lymphatic drainage training program is a thorough and practical course in manual lymphatic drainage based on the Dr. Vodder method. The program is structured in three modules, in which you will learn, step by step, the theory, hand techniques, treatment sequences, and clinical application of manual lymphatic drainage.
This program is designed for practitioners, therapists, and healthcare professionals who wish to work professionally with the lymphatic system, the body’s fluid balance, and the manual treatment of clients with both functional and more complex issues.

Dr. Emil Vodder, a Danish physician, and his wife, Dr. Estrid Vodder, dedicated their lives to developing lymphatic drainage. Together, they traveled the world to spread awareness of the technique and increase understanding of the importance of the lymphatic system. It is remarkable that this recognized form of treatment has Danish roots.
During World War II, they founded their first school in Copenhagen. That school no longer exists, but in 1971, in collaboration with the Wittlinger couple, they opened a school in Austria. The school is still run by the Wittlinger family today and is internationally recognized for its Dr. Vodder lymphatic therapy training programs, where the method is continuously developed and refined.
There are currently no certified instructors in Scandinavia, as the requirements for training and ongoing professional development are very high. That’s why we’re hosting an instructor directly from the school in Austria, so we can offer you this authentic, high-quality training.
Mastering lymphatic drainage requires time and thorough training. That is why the program consists of a total of 150 lessons, in which theory and hands-on instruction go hand in hand.
Lymphatic drainage is much more than just a treatment for lymphedema. The method can also be used to treat conditions such as migraines, problems with the knees, shoulders, and hips, whiplash, and various sports injuries.
To achieve optimal results, precise movements and the right amount of pressure are essential—something that can only be achieved through qualified instruction.
This technique is an ideal complement or alternative to traditional massage. Many practitioners find that lymphatic drainage is a gentler method that is less physically taxing to perform throughout an entire workday.
This method is currently gaining significant traction internationally, particularly in the U.S. and the U.K., which are often pioneers in treatment trends. Get prepared well in advance so you’re ready when demand really starts to grow in Denmark.

Module 1
Basic Manual Lymphatic Drainage
In the first module, you will learn the basic techniques of manual lymphatic drainage according to the Dr. Vodder method. The module is a hands-on course that focuses on hand movements, rhythm, pressure, direction, and precision in the techniques.
You will be introduced to basic lymphatic drainage techniques such as stationary circles, pumping techniques, scoops, thumb circles, and rotary techniques. Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn to perform basic treatment sequences on areas including the neck, face, arms, legs, back, chest, abdomen, and buttocks.
The module also focuses on how manual lymphatic drainage affects the body’s systems, as well as when the treatment can be used safely and appropriately. You will also learn about relevant indications and contraindications so that you can take the necessary precautions during treatment.
After completing this module, you will have a solid practical foundation and will be able to perform basic MLD treatments on clients with a healthy lymphatic system. The module lasts 32 hours and requires completion of Level 1 theory as a prerequisite.
Part 1 – MLD Theory
The first part consists of an easy-to-follow online PowerPoint slideshow that covers basic theoretical concepts and principles.
Module 2
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
In Module 2, you’ll build on the techniques and treatment sequences you learned in Module 1. Here, we’ll take a more clinical and targeted approach to manual lymphatic drainage in relation to specific issues and treatment areas.
You will learn how manual lymphatic drainage can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including, among others, whiplash, burns, migraines, tinnitus, CRPS, stroke, sinus problems, eye trauma, Meniere’s syndrome, tennis elbow, knee problems, shoulder dysfunction, adhesive capsulitis, hip problems, and supination trauma of the ankle.
The module combines theory and practice. You will review Level 1 techniques and learn additional techniques for, among other areas, the head, face, oral cavity, upper extremities, lower extremities, neck, shoulders, hips, chest, and abdomen. You’ll work on treatment planning, clinical reasoning, and adapting techniques to different client types and issues.
The module lasts 32 hours and requires completion of Module 1: Theory and Practice.
Module 3
Lymphedema and Complex Lymphoedema Therapy
Module 3 begins with two days of online theory before students arrive at the school.
The third module is the most specialized part of the program and focuses on lymphedema, edema treatment, and Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Here, you will learn to address more complex issues related to the lymphatic system and fluid retention in the tissues.
In this module, we will review the pathophysiological basis of edema, including lymphedema and lipedema. You will learn about indications, contraindications, and differential diagnosis so that you can assess various types of swelling and plan safe and targeted treatment.
The practical component includes, among other things, MLD treatment for lymphedema in the arms and legs, treatment of head and neck edema, edema exercises, skin care, measurements, compression therapy, and bandaging with both short-stretch and long-stretch bandages. The program also addresses chronic venous insufficiency, venous ulcers, scar tissue, complications, and clients with more complex treatment needs.
The module includes theory, hands-on training, record-keeping, measurements, garment fitting, and an exam. You will thus receive a thorough introduction to working with clients with lymphedema and related edema conditions. The module lasts 73 hours.
Admission requirements
You must be able to understand English, as all instruction is conducted in English.
You must have a degree in bodywork, such as a degree in physical therapy, massage therapy, or bodywork therapy, with a minimum of 250 hours of practical training and 200 hours of physiology and anatomy.
