Massage tops the list as the most used form of treatment
According to the latest Health and Morbidity Survey (SUSY ) from 2021, massage, body therapy and other manipulative therapies are the most used alternative therapies in Denmark.
The study shows that 18.4% of the adult population have received one or more types of massage or manipulative body treatments in the past year.
In comparison, around 24% have used alternative therapies in general, so massage makes up a significant proportion of total treatments.
One of the reasons why massage tops the list is probably because it can fulfill several needs. For example, many people seek massage to relieve muscle tension, reduce pain or de-stress during a busy day. In addition, it’s an easy-to-use treatment that can be customized to suit individual needs, whether you want a gentle, relaxing wellness experience or a more in-depth, physiurgical approach.
The report also indicates that more women than men use massage, and that the proportion is typically highest among adults in the 35-54 age group. At the same time, the use of massage is more prevalent among those who have been in contact with their GP within the past year – suggesting that many use the treatment in combination with or as a supplement to the established healthcare system.

If you want to try an alternative treatment for yourself, massage is a good option. It can provide both physical relief and mental wellbeing – and according to the SUSY report, you’re in good company if you choose this treatment.

Become a massage therapist – and build a career as an alternative practitioner
The high demand for massage also means that there are great opportunities to make a career in the field. If you dream of working with health in an alternative way, a massage therapist education is an obvious choice. As a trained massage therapist you can:
Helping people relieve tension and pain
Working with both prevention and treatment
